U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Makes Rare N.Z. Visit for Security Talks on Pacific

New Zealand’s relationship with Five Eyes partner the United States is “extremely strong”, a visiting US top naval commander has assured.

US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral John Aquilino touched down this week for a two-day whistlestop introductory tour with his New Zealand counterparts, before visiting Fiji and Tonga.

And while unrelated, Aquilino’s visit to meet with New Zealand defence chiefs comes at a moment where the strength of the Five Eyes alliance has been thrown back under the spotlight.
