WATCH: Schultz, Vanderhaden Discuss Coast Guard Strategic Plan

“Since I’ve assumed my role as the 26th commandant in June, I’ve framed a lens that I’ve looked through what I call the three ‘R’s: ready, relevant and responsive,” Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Karl Schultz said in D.C. on Tuesday. “Those principles really look at the vital and complex work of the men and women of the Coast Guard that we do every day: supporting the American public in our national maritime interests.”

The Coast Guard Strategic Plan covering 2018-22 focuses on three core priorities: “Maximize readiness today and tomorrow, address the nation’s complex maritime challenges, and deliver mission excellence anytime, anywhere.”

Schultz and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Jason M. Vanderhaden sat down to discuss the plan, with its concentrations on developing the workforce, modernizing assets and mission platforms, and strengthening maritime governance, in a virtual town hall:
