Cyberattack Causes Second Day of Flight Delays and Cancellations at European Airports

In the latest line of cybersecurity breaches to make international headlines, major European airports continued to experience delays and cancellations following cyber-related disruptions to their check-in systems.

London’s Heathrow Airport, Brussels Airport, and Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport were forced to revert to manual check-in and boarding procedures after a cyberattack rendered the automated systems inoperable on Friday night. The systems are provided by the company Collins Aerospace, a business unit of RTX (formerly Raytheon Technologies).

In Berlin, more than 70 flights had been delayed by midday, although some flights had left on time. “Due to a systems outage at a service provider, there are longer waiting times,” Berlin airport said on its website.
