Help Improve the UAS Waiver/Exemption Process

Researchers at independent, nonpartisan organizations Catalyst-Go and the Eno Center for Transportation are working on a research project to complement the Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) survey on unmanned aerial systems (UAS) regulations.

They want to hear from people who have applied for a Part 107 or Section 44807 waiver or exemption. As part of their research, they are conducting a short confidential survey to learn more about peoples’ experiences with these processes.

The Eno survey seeks to complement the work of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) through learning more about operators’ experiences applying for waivers under Part 107 and exemptions under Sections 333 or 44807. The survey is especially trying to quantify the impact of the waiver/exemption process on the industry’s safety and operations. The survey asks operators about their organizations, intended use of the UAS, specifics of the waiver requested, any additional information requested by the FAA, impact of the waiver on the organization’s bottom line, and overall user satisfaction with the process.

Even if you did not successfully obtain a waiver or exemption, your responses will help understand the process and its outcomes. Your response must be received by January 31, 2019.
