A major win for travelers flying from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) Terminal 3 is now in effect according to a LinkedIn post from the airport. Beginning February 4, 2025, passengers on Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic will experience a smoother, faster connection at Heathrow thanks to the launch of the One Stop Security (OSS) pilot program.
The OSS program, introduced by the UK Department for Transport in partnership with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), streamlines security procedures for eligible passengers. Travelers departing from ATL to Heathrow’s Terminal 3 will no longer need to undergo redundant security screenings upon arrival in London, making transatlantic connections faster and more efficient.
Passengers will no longer face repeat security screening at Heathrow, reducing inconvenience and making it easier to connect to onward flights. The program shortens connection times and helps ease congestion at security checkpoints, improving passenger flow at Heathrow Terminal 3. It also lowers emissions by minimizing resource usage and improving operational efficiency at the airport.
By recognizing TSA’s security standards as equivalent to those in the UK, the OSS initiative eliminates unnecessary re-screening for passengers who have already cleared TSA security in the U.S. This streamlining enhances airport efficiency, improves sustainability, and provides a more seamless travel experience. The elimination of duplicate security procedures is expected to reduce wait times, optimize airport operations, and contribute to a more sustainable travel process by cutting down on resource-intensive security re-screenings.
This program currently applies only to travelers connecting through Heathrow Terminal 3, but if successful, it could expand to additional routes and airports, further transforming international travel.
