On Sunday, July 14, 2024, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) achieved a new milestone by screening a record-breaking 9,503 passengers through the security checkpoint at Boise Airport (BOI). This surpasses the previous record set just a week earlier, on July 7, 2024, when 9,467 individuals were screened.
This summer has seen unprecedented activity at TSA security checkpoints across airports nationwide. On a national scale, TSA set an all-time single-day record on July 7, 2024, with 3,013,413 passengers screened. In response to these sustained high volumes, TSA continues to advise travelers to arrive at airports early and prepare for all stages of the travel process.
The first half of 2024 has been particularly busy at BOI, with TSA officers screening nearly 1.3 million departing travelers, marking a 6.1% increase from the same period last year, which saw around 1,224,000 people screened. Throughout 2023, TSA at BOI processed approximately 2,611,000 departing travelers through its security checkpoints.
“The growth at BOI in recent months has been exceptional. In close partnership with the airport and airlines, we have been able to maintain the efficiency of our security operations despite the highest passenger volumes ever at BOI,” said Andy Coose, TSA Federal Security Director for Idaho.
TSA also reminds travelers to avoid packing prohibited items in their carry-on and checked luggage. Recently, TSA officers have discovered multiple prohibited items, often associated with camping and outdoor activities, highlighting the importance of adhering to TSA guidelines.
Travelers are encouraged to stay informed about what items are permissible and to ensure they are prepared for a smooth and efficient security screening experience. For more information on travel guidelines and tips, visit the TSA website.
