USCG Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Golden Gate Park

A Coast Guard helicopter made an emergency landing Thursday in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, causing activities on the ground to be suspended while the stranded aircraft waited for a mechanic.

“We had a helicopter on a search-and-rescue case that’s now closed,” said Petty Officer Cory Mendenhall, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “They had a maintenance light come on and instead of continuing on their flight, they made an emergency landing.”

The helicopter touched down in a recreation field just after 8 a.m.; no one on the ground on on the aircraft suffered injuries.

Mendenhall compared the move to pulling over “if your engine light came on while you were driving.”

San Francisco Parks and Recreation tweeted that all activities on the field were canceled and that the helicopter would be there until fixed.
