Stanford Wildfire Resilience Program Releases 2025 Report, Receives National Wildfire Mitigation Award

Stanford University’s Wildfire Resilience Program has released its 2025 annual report, outlining a year of initiatives focused on wildfire preparedness, mitigation, and community safety.

The report highlights 14 initiatives and activities completed during the year, including planning, preparedness efforts, and collaborative projects aimed at strengthening wildfire resilience. Among the key efforts detailed in the report is the Stanford Wildfire Preparedness and Evacuation Guide, developed in partnership with EHS, the Office of Emergency Management, and Stanford University Communications (U-Comm).

The program also received national recognition earlier this year. Stanford’s Wildfire Resilience Program was nominated for and awarded the 2026 Wildfire Mitigation Award, a national honor recognizing leadership and impact in wildfire mitigation.

The Wildfire Mitigation Awards, established in 2014, are presented annually by a coalition that includes the National Association of State Foresters, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Protection Association, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Each year, the awards recognize a small number of programs across the United States that demonstrate notable contributions to wildfire risk reduction and preparedness. According to the program, only three to five recipients are typically recognized nationwide each year.
