Welcome From The Founders

We founded Pracademic Affairs in 2020 to address a critical need we saw in homeland security and emergency management. Since its inception as an educational discipline a quarter century ago, a perceived gap has existed between the academic and practitioner roles within emergency management and homeland security (EM/HS) areas. These fields uniquely draw from operational experience and scholarship to promote research, enrich academic programs, and remain relevant to EM/HS practitioners. The convergence of practice and academics ironically identifies a gap in the literature that reflects this blended evolution.

About Pracademic Affairs

Pracademic Affairs is a pioneering eJournal created to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world practice in emergency management and homeland security (EM/HS). Founded to amplify the voices of practitioner-scholars —or pracademics—the journal provides an accessible platform for sharing rigorous research, operational insights, and peer-driven lessons learned. Its mission is to provide emergency management and homeland security practitioners a welcoming platform to write, explore, analyze, and examine real-world critical lessons learned to improve the resilience of our communities. In partnership with Homeland Security Today, Pracademic Affairs addresses long-standing barriers that have limited practitioner participation in traditional academic publishing. By leveraging modern publishing tools and fostering cross-sector collaboration, Pracademic Affairs seeks to elevate the role of pracademics and advance a more resilient and informed EM/HS community.
