John Ausink

John Ausink is a senior policy researcher at the RAND Corporation. He has worked in Project AIR FORCE, the Arroyo Center (RAND Army Research Division), the National Defense Research Institute, and the Science and Technology Policy Institute. His research areas have included the development of analytical tools for measuring the retention behavior of military personnel, frameworks for strategic personnel planning, ways to improve Department of Defense acquisition, the training and management of Air Force pilots, and approaches to training for the Joint Strike Fighter. A career officer in the U.S. Air Force, Ausink was an instructor pilot, an associate professor of mathematics at the Air Force Academy, a National Defense Fellow at Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, and served on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. He earned his B.S. in mathematics and physics from the U.S. Air Force Academy, his M.Sc. in mathematics from Oxford University, and his Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard University.
