The Department of Homeland Security has named Supriya Ahuja as its Acting Deputy Chief Information Security Officer.
Ahuja brings nearly two decades of experience in cybersecurity, risk management, compliance, and information security across both government and private-sector organizations. Her appointment follows a series of leadership roles within DHS, most recently serving as Director of Cybersecurity Risk Operations and previously as Chief of the Cybersecurity Risk Reporting and Analysis Branch.
In her new position, Ahuja joins DHS’s senior cybersecurity leadership team after helping oversee risk reporting, cybersecurity operations, and compliance initiatives across the department.
Before returning to DHS leadership roles, Ahuja spent nearly three years at ATI (Allegheny Technologies Incorporated) as Director of Cybersecurity Governance, Risk and Compliance, Vulnerability Management and Training. There, she managed efforts to meet regulatory and customer cybersecurity requirements while working with auditors, executives, and project teams to strengthen security practices across the organization and its vendor network.
Ahuja also previously served at DHS headquarters as an IT Specialist and Cybersecurity Compliance and Risk Program Manager, where she was responsible for overseeing the Security Authorization and Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M) Management Program for DHS headquarters and component agencies.
Earlier in her federal career, she spent more than seven years with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a Cyber Security Manager, supporting cybersecurity risk management, ongoing authorization efforts, and enterprise governance, risk, and compliance programs.
Her private-sector experience includes positions as an Information Security Engineer with Knowledge Consulting Group and a Cyber Security Analyst with Project Performance Corporation, where she conducted independent security assessments, developed authorization packages, and supported continuous monitoring and remediation efforts for federal systems.
Ahuja began her cybersecurity career with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, serving as a Patent Examiner specializing in cryptography and network security, evaluating patent applications and emerging technologies in the cybersecurity field.
She holds a Master of Science in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
