New Video Series Highlights Project 25 Encryption for Emergency Communications

The Joint SAFECOM–National Council of Statewide Interoperability Coordinators (NCSWIC) Project 25 (P25) User Needs Working Group (UNWG) has released the UNWG Video Series, underscoring the critical role of P25 land mobile radio (LMR) encryption in protecting the Nation and its first responders.

The series includes three videos:

  • “What is the Difference Between Link Layer Authentication, Link Layer Encryption, and Voice Traffic Encryption?” – where UNWG members explain the three types of P25 LMR encryption and their importance to secure emergency communications.

  • “What is Link Layer Authentication (LLA)?” – which illustrates how LLA encrypts and authenticates P25 LMR communications, with real-world examples from practitioners.

  • “What is the Joint SAFECOM-NCSWIC Project 25 User Needs Working Group?” – highlighting the group’s mission to ensure interoperability in P25 communications and how the public safety community can engage.

The full UNWG Video Series is available here.
