Red Cross Responding After Severe Weather, Tornadoes Hit Midwest

The American Red Cross is responding across multiple states after this week’s severe weather when hundreds of storm incidents were reported across nearly two dozen states from the Plains to the Appalachians and the Gulf Coast.

The dangerous weather system spawned tornadoes, large hail and heavy rain. As many as 260 severe weather incidents were reported. In some areas, officials are investigating which storms produced straight-line winds or tornadoes.

After tornadoes touched down in southwest Michigan last Friday, Red Cross disaster workers and partners opened a shelter in Three Rivers and distributed cleaning supplies in Cass County including buckets, mops, sponges and gloves. Multi-Agenciy Resource Centers are set to open and the Red Cross will be part of the agencies present to help those affected. In northeast Oklahoma, disaster teams supported first responders with meals and drinks, helped with damage assessment and distributed emergency supplies in the affected neighborhoods.
