Currently serving as Director of the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC) for the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), John Felker talked with In Homeland Security about the evolution of cybersecurity and strategies for next-gen professionals to meet the changing mission.
What do you feel were the biggest threats to cybersecurity over the past few decades?
The early Internet wasn’t designed with cybersecurity in mind. The intention was to allow academics to quickly share their research with one another, so there are many vulnerabilities. Now, the Web is so interwoven with our daily lives, especially through ecommerce, and we’re even more at risk from attackers.
