Coast Guard 7th District Holds Change-of-Command Ceremony at Air Station Miami

Rear Adm. Eric C. Jones relieved Rear Adm. Peter J. Brown as the commander of Coast Guard 7th District, Wednesday during a change-of-command ceremony at Coast Guard Air Station Miami.

Jones reported to Coast Guard 7th District from Coast Guard Headquarters where he was military advisor to the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security since June 2017. Brown will transfer to headquarters as deputy assistant to the president, the Department of Homeland Security and the counterterrorism advisor.

Vice Admiral Scott A. Buschman, commander Coast Guard Atlantic Area, presided over the event.

Coast Guard 7th District is comprised of 4,012 active duty members, 710 reserve members, 229 civilian members and 4,521 auxiliary members.

During the the fiscal year 2018, the 7th District was responsible for 1,055 lives saved, 1,583 migrants interdicted, $458 million in illegal narcotics interdicted, $66 million in property saved and 13,689 vessel inspections.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition. It represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another. The event ensures the continuity of leadership and operations within the district’s area of responsibility.
