Coast Guardsman Dies in Fall from Alaska Cliff

A 25-year-old Coast Guardsman died Wednesday from injuries suffered when he fell off a cliff in Kodiak.

Alaska State Troopers identified the active-duty Coastie as Ricky Reese Jr. of Georgia. Officials said he was walking along a bluff at Buskin Beach with a friend, overlooking the ocean, when he fell about 60 feet.

Troopers attempted to resuscitate Reese at the scene; he was pronounced dead after being taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

The Anchorage Daily News reported that the Coast Guard has not yet confirmed Reese’s rank.
