Andrew Vanjani Sworn in as USCIS Chief Information Officer

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has sworn in Andrew Vanjani as its new Chief Information Officer, marking his entry into the Senior Executive Service and a leadership role at the center of the agency’s technology operations.

Vanjani announced the move in a LinkedIn post, noting the significance of the moment as he took the oath before USCIS Executive Director Joseph Edlow. “Today was more than just a career milestone; it was a memory etched in time,” he wrote, highlighting both the professional transition and the personal importance of the occasion.

He steps into the CIO role with a background that spans federal, state, and international technology leadership. Most recently, Vanjani served as Chief Information Officer at the Organization of American States (Organización de los Estados Americanos), where he also held the role of Director of General Services and, before that, Senior Digital Transformation Advisor to the Secretary for Administration and Finance.

Earlier in his career, Vanjani held senior roles within the U.S. government, including Assistant Cabinet Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the Maryland Department of Information Technology, where he oversaw statewide IT operations supporting tens of thousands of employees. He also served in multiple leadership positions at the General Services Administration, including Director of the Integrated Award Environment and involvement with the IT Modernization Centers of Excellence.

His experience also includes private sector leadership roles in digital strategy and IT operations, along with earlier federal work supporting agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services and the Executive Office of the President.

In his new role at USCIS, Vanjani emphasized a focus on strengthening technology as a core component of the agency’s mission. In his LinkedIn post, he outlined priorities including improving system integrity, modernizing infrastructure, and enhancing service delivery through technology.

USCIS, part of the Department of Homeland Security, manages immigration and naturalization processes and relies heavily on digital systems to handle large application volumes and maintain operational efficiency. Vanjani now leads the Office of Information Technology, responsible for supporting those mission-critical systems.
