Michael Banks has been named Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, bringing decades of federal law enforcement experience to the role. Banks, who has over 35 years of service, including more than 25 years in border security operations and administration, takes the helm this month.
Before this appointment, Banks served as Special Advisor to Governor Greg Abbott on Border Matters, where he provided expertise on border security policy and strategy. His career also includes key leadership positions within the Department of Homeland Security, such as Patrol Agent in Charge and Deputy Chief for Law Enforcement Operational Programs. These roles have given him extensive experience in directing complex operations, planning, evaluation, and analysis within the agency.
Throughout his career, Banks has worked in various multidisciplinary and interagency environments, emphasizing operational efficiency and workforce development. His background includes managing large teams, addressing inefficiencies, and implementing strategies to improve operational outcomes.
As Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, Banks will oversee the agency’s efforts to secure the nation’s borders and address challenges related to illegal immigration and cross-border crime. His appointment reflects the continued commitment to strengthening border security and addressing evolving threats.
