Coast Guard Members Soar to Annual Women in Aviation International Conference

More than 40 Coast Guard members traveled to Reno, Nevada, from all corners of the country to attend the 2018 Women in Aviation International Conference in late March. Reno, dubbed “The Biggest Little City in the World,” welcomed aviators and others in the industry as they flocked to the 29th annual gathering, which rotates annually between four locations. The four-day general aviation event fosters opportunities for mentorship, career planning, networking, education, and recruiting.

The first day focused on Coast Guard leadership initiatives, open dialogue to discuss career planning and growth, panels for conversation revolving around diversity matters and social issues, family planning experiences and guidance, among other topics.

Cmdr. Tina Peña, commanding officer of Air Station New Orleans believes the events are well organized and keep getting better every year.

“I believe our junior members benefitted greatly from the one-on-one mentorship opportunities, and I found several panelists along with my own personal mentoring experiences really valuable,” said Peña. “This event is a must-attend for those looking to learn and grow in our aviation community.”
