New Emergency Shelter Management Tool Aims to Improve Disaster Response Coordination

A new Emergency Shelter Management solution is being introduced to help emergency managers better coordinate shelter operations during disasters and major events.

The platform is designed to improve visibility and efficiency across shelter systems by providing enhanced mapping, inventory tracking, occupancy monitoring, and streamlined registration processes. The goal is to reduce operational strain on emergency management teams and support faster, more informed decision-making during high-pressure situations.

The tool will be featured during an upcoming Ex-Wing session, which is running today between 3:30-4:30pm Eastern, where participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with the development team. The session is expected to focus on how the system can be integrated across jurisdictions—from county to state levels—and how it can support broader coordination during emergency response efforts.

Ex-Wing events are structured to encourage collaboration, bringing together practitioners and stakeholders to share tools, research, and operational insights with minimal administrative barriers. The session will also include discussions on broader situational awareness topics, including current national weather concerns, international forecasting developments, and findings from a recent World Meteorological Organization report.

Organizers say the broader aim is to support information-sharing and improve preparedness by connecting technology solutions with real-world operational needs.
