The Rapid Relief Team (RRT), the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, will be providing meals, hydration, and refreshments to U.S. Secret Service personnel working throughout the nation’s capital on Saturday, July 4th, as the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence.
Approximately 40 RRT volunteers will serve an estimated 3,500 meals and refreshments throughout the day to personnel supporting the President’s July 4th speech and other major holiday events.
The service comes as federal law enforcement personnel prepare to work extended hours amid high temperatures and large crowds gathering in Washington for the historic anniversary.
“America’s 250th anniversary is a moment of national celebration, but it also requires an extraordinary commitment from the men and women working behind the scenes to keep the public safe,” said Wes Macdonald, Operations Manager for RRT North America. “Our volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to support Secret Service personnel with meals, cold drinks, and a place to recharge during what will be a demanding day of service.”
RRT regularly works alongside law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community organizations to provide practical support during major public events, natural disasters, and other times of need, including the recent National Police Week in Washington, D.C. The July 4th operation continues RRT’s ongoing commitment to serving those who serve their communities.
RRT is a global network of over 17,000 volunteers who assist emergency services during disasters and crises by providing meals and other forms of support. Established in 2013 by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC), RRT is dedicated to showing kindness through its actions, embodying the PBCC values of care, compassion, and community support in times of need.
