Coast Guard Issues PSA on Drone Restrictions for FIFA World Cup at Levi’s Stadium

The Coast Guard is reminding the public that drones are strictly prohibited within a 3-nautical-mile radius of Levi’s Stadium during FIFA World Cup games, as part of a temporary flight restriction (TFR) enforced for public safety.

In coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement partners, the Coast Guard will actively monitor the airspace and enforce all restrictions. Authorities will use federally authorized tools to detect, track and assess any unauthorized drone activity.

Operating a drone inside the World Cup No Drone Zone is strictly prohibited and can result in severe consequences. Violators may face immediate arrest and federal criminal charges. The FBI is authorized to intercept and seize unauthorized drones. Civil penalties of up to $75,000 per violation and criminal fines of up to $100,000 may also apply.

“These restrictions are in place to protect fans, athletes and the integrity of the event,” said Cmdr. Dave Herndon, response department head, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco. “We urge everyone to comply with all posted airspace restrictions.”
