Charleston International AirportBaggage claim in terminal moves toward TSA Charleston International Airport is formally pursuing a transition to the Transportation Security Administration’s Gold+ Program, a TSA-approved screening model that would bring in a private screening contractor while keeping federal oversight of checkpoint security, airport officials said.
Under the program, airports participate in TSA’s Screening Partnership Program. TSA would continue to set security requirements, oversee screening operations, conduct inspections and ensure compliance with federal aviation security regulations.
Airport officials said current TSA Transportation Security Officers at Charleston International Airport who want to remain would have the chance to transition to the contractor at equivalent pay and benefits. The change also would mean employees would not face missed paychecks during future federal government shutdowns, officials said.
