Homeland Security Today Announces Terrorism Prevention Editorial Board

Washington, D.C. — Homeland Security Today, the premier nonprofit news and information platform serving the homeland security enterprise, today announced the official launch of its Terrorism Prevention Editorial Board, bringing together nationally recognized leaders from government, public health, education, law enforcement, academia, technology, and community organizations to strengthen the growing field of terrorism and targeted violence prevention.

As threats continue to evolve, preventing violence before it occurs has become an increasingly important component of national security. The Terrorism Prevention Editorial Board reflects Homeland Security Today’s commitment to elevating evidence-based approaches, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and providing practitioners with actionable insights that strengthen prevention efforts across the United States and internationally.

Editorial Board members will contribute original analysis, research, best practices, and thought leadership to help decision-makers better understand emerging threats, effective interventions, and innovative strategies that reduce the risk of targeted violence and terrorism.

“Prevention is one of the most important—and fastest evolving—missions in homeland security. After 9/11, we added preventing terrorist acts to the homeland security professional’s plate, fundamentally expanding the mission beyond response alone. Protecting our communities requires more than responding to attacks; it requires understanding risk, building resilience, and empowering the people and organizations working every day to intervene before violence occurs. Homeland Security Today is committed to creating the forum where these conversations can happen across disciplines, connecting practitioners, researchers, policymakers, educators, public health professionals, and industry leaders to advance practical, evidence-based solutions. We are honored to welcome this extraordinary group of experts to our community.”

— Kristina Tanasichuk, Executive Editor, Homeland Security Today

The Terrorism Prevention Editorial Board is chaired by Bill Braniff, Director of American University’s Polarization & Extremism Research and Innovation Lab,whose leadership has helped shape prevention policy and practice across government, academia, and nonprofit organizations.

“I’m so excited to help introduce the Terrorism Prevention Editorial Board. When we created it approximately a year ago, the Terrorism Prevention vertical was intended to be a place where the entire prevention community of practice and research could share ideas and practices that helps to scale prevention efforts in the U.S. and abroad. With a board that represents expertise and networks in primary prevention, secondary prevention and tertiary prevention, from education to public health to public safety disciplines, and from public sector to private sector approaches, we will be able to curate more relevant content from a wider range of contributors. My thanks to Homeland Security Today for providing our community this venue, and to our inaugural editorial board members for helping to spread the knowledge that targeted violence and terrorism are preventable, and that we all have a role to play.”
