Homeland Security Today (HSToday), the premier nonprofit, nonpartisan platform for homeland security information and analysis, today announced that Dr. John Zangardi has joined its Editorial Board, bringing decades of leadership in national security, cybersecurity, and federal technology innovation.
“Dr. Zangardi’s exceptional experience at the intersection of defense, cybersecurity, and digital transformation will significantly strengthen our Editorial Board,” said Kristina Tanasichuk, CEO of the Government Technology & Services Coalition (GTSC) and Executive Editor of HSToday. “His leadership and insight will help ensure our content continues to inform decision-makers and advance meaningful dialogue across the homeland security community.”
Dr. Zangardi is widely recognized for his distinguished public service, including serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where he led enterprise-wide IT modernization, cybersecurity strategy, and data-driven transformation efforts. He also held senior leadership roles at the Department of Defense, including Acting CIO, where he was responsible for advancing innovation, cloud adoption, and cyber resilience across the defense enterprise. His career spans military service, federal leadership, and private-sector innovation, positioning him as a leading voice on emerging technologies and national security.

As a member of the HSToday Editorial Board, Dr. Zangardi will contribute to shaping coverage of evolving threats, emerging technologies, and cybersecurity challenges. He will play an active role in:

- Providing insight into cyber threats, technologies, and best practices
- Guiding research priorities and thought leadership initiatives
- Supporting HSToday’s annual threat assessment and editorial direction
- Contributing articles and participating in collaborative initiatives
