Ethiopia Opens AI Defense Research Lab With UAE Backing

The new facility expands Ethiopia’s military research capabilities through AI, cybersecurity, advanced engineering, and bilateral cooperation with the UAE.

Artificial intelligence is taking center stage in Ethiopia’s defense modernization as the country opens a new research laboratory backed by the UAE.

Located at the Ethiopian Defence University, the Advanced Central Laboratory will serve as a national hub for defense research, technology development, and specialized training.

According to Ethiopia’s Ministry of Defense, the facility houses dedicated laboratories for artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, communications, automation, electrical power systems, 3D printing, computer numerical control machining, and prototyping.
