Michael Weissman has been named Deputy Chief Information Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he will help lead the department’s enterprise information technology strategy, modernization initiatives, and delivery of mission-critical digital capabilities.
In the role, Weissman supports efforts involving cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, data, artificial intelligence, and digital services while working to align technology investments with DHS operational priorities.
Weissman previously served as DHS Chief Data Officer, where he advised the Chief Information Officer and senior leadership on enterprise data strategy, governance, and the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He led efforts focused on improving data accessibility, discoverability, governance, and data-driven decision-making across the department.
Since joining DHS in 2020, Weissman has held several executive leadership positions, including Senior Leader for Human Resources Information Technology and Digital Services Expert. His work has included technology modernization, cloud adoption, software engineering, acquisition strategy, and enterprise business solutions.
Before entering federal service, Weissman spent more than 15 years designing and leading software, analytics, and data platforms across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, publishing, video gaming, and fashion.
At Navigant Consulting, later acquired by Guidehouse, Weissman served as Associate Director and led technology efforts supporting global investigations and compliance programs. His work included developing machine learning capabilities for financial compliance, modernizing enterprise data platforms, and leading software development teams.
Weissman also served as a Digital Services Expert with the United States Digital Service, supporting government modernization efforts through multidisciplinary technology teams.
