Rafa Laboratories, a biodefense and emergency medical solutions company, has announced a three-year agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) for the supply of Atropine Autoinjectors (0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg) for pediatric and adult use. With the United States facing a heightened threat environment driven by the ongoing conflict in Iran and the global visibility surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, preparedness is more critical than ever. This deal, valued at $46 million, will reinforce the nation’s readiness to counteract chemical nerve-agent threats.
“This agreement reflects our commitment to maintaining a reliable supply relationship in the years ahead.” said Iddo Leshem, CEO of Rafa Laboratories. “Atropine is the basic layer of protection against chemical nerve agents, and ensuring a robust, readily available supply is critical for national security. We are proud to continue this crucial mission with ASPR covering both adult and pediatric populations.”
This multi-year contract further strengthens Rafa Laboratories’ position as the leading global supplier of CBRN medical countermeasure autoinjectors.
“The success of this partnership sets the stage for the company’s expansion into new product lines and additional therapeutic areas, ” said Roy Shay, VP Biodefense, Rafa Laboratories. Rafa and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) are currently collaborating to develop a new design for Rafa’s atropine autoinjectors which will be optimally positioned for civilian use, while maintaining the exceptionally high reliability rate of 99.999% successful activation required by the US FDA for emergency use autoinjectors.
Rafa has also been recently awarded an additional landmark development contract by BARDA for the advanced development of a novel intramuscular (IM) formulation of tranexamic acid (TXA)—a potentially life-saving therapy for uncontrolled bleeding. The contract is potentially valued at up to $186 million, including all option periods. Furthermore, Rafa is cultivating an active pipeline and preparing for the launch of additional drug-device combination products such as Naloxone 10 mg autoinjector – an antidote for high-potency opioid poisoning, and a Ketamine autoinjector for the treatment of moderate to severe pain, further diversifying and strengthening global emergency preparedness across a variety of therapeutic needs.
