Brenda Bergeron, Deputy Commissioner of DESPP’s Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), has announced her plans to retire in early 2026. Bergeron has been a public servant for the State of Connecticut for 37 years.
“Brenda Bergeron has been an invaluable member of Connecticut’s emergency management team, assisting with natural disaster and emergency response at a moment’s notice,” said Governor Ned Lamont. “Her institutional knowledge and longstanding experience has helped the state and our municipal partners quicky manage and respond to emergency situations when timeliness is essential, and her ability to coordinate and execute tasks is truly impressive. I thank and applaud Brenda for her public service to Connecticut, and I wish her nothing but the best on this well-earned retirement.”
“Across the six divisions of DESPP, we are all grateful for Brenda’s leadership and devotion to public service,’’ said DESPP Commissioner Ronnell A. Higgins. “Connecticut is more prepared and ready for whatever comes next thanks to her.”
DEMHS provides a coordinated and integrated program for statewide emergency management and homeland security. Bergeron’s career includes two decades of emergency management experience in Connecticut, most recently as deputy commissioner.
“DEMHS represents the finest qualities of public service, with a staff dedicated to the mission of collaboration, coordination, and integration achieved through working together with diverse emergency management and homeland security partners and stakeholders at the state, local tribal, federal, and private sector levels,’’ Bergeron said.
“I leave behind fine DEMHS team members who I am confident will lead emergency management and homeland security into the future with dedication, commitment, creativity and caring,’’ Bergeron said.
Bergeron plans to retire effective Feb. 1, 2026.
