Eric Stoessel has joined the New York City Office of the Mayor as Policy Advisor for Emergency Operations in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations, bringing more than a decade of experience in emergency management, disaster response, and human services.
Stoessel moves into the role after more than seven years with the New York City Emergency Management Department, where he most recently served as Director of Analysis and Evaluation. During his tenure, he also held leadership positions as Deputy Director of Human Services, Food Access and VOAD Program Manager, and Human Services Specialist, supporting the city’s emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
Before joining New York City Emergency Management, Stoessel worked with New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS), first as a Disaster Case Manager and later as Partnerships Coordinator, helping coordinate disaster recovery and community partnerships.
Earlier in his career, he served with FEMA Corps as an Individual Assistance Specialist, supporting disaster survivors following Superstorm Sandy and the South Carolina floods. He also served as a Support Team Leader with AmeriCorps NCCC, where he provided logistical support for field teams and coordinated deployments alongside FEMA operations.
Stoessel holds a Master of Science in Health Services Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of Evansville.
