Top CBP Official Says ‘Walls Work’ and ‘Agents Know It’

CBP Deputy Commissioner Roland Vitiello hit back at reports that Customs and Border Protection agents do not support a border wall, saying “walls work” and “agents know it,” according to Fox News.

Vitiello told reporters that a mix of infrastructure, technology and access to the border are what works and effective barriers are an important part of that mix.

“The truth is that walls work and the data show it and agents know it,” he said.

He went on to say that CBP appreciated the funding allocated to border security measures in the omnibus spending bill, and that it would fund 100 miles of the border wall system. He did note that the money did not fund the exact priorities that had been requested, though, and it had been given to CBP in different ways. “It does not fully fund our needs in the most critical locations,” Vitiello said.

$1.6 billion was allocated to border security measures in the omnibus spending bill, with the stipulation that it go toward fencing and technology but not a concrete border wall.
