USNORTHCOM and FEMA Leaders Meet to Discuss Disaster Response Preparedness

U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) senior staff have met with Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) Assistant Administrator of Response, Mr. Matt Payne and Director of Response Operations Division, Mr. Russ Clarke, to discuss areas of joint focus.

The Commander of USNORTHCOM is designated as the Department of War synchronizer during execution of Defense Support of Civil Authorities operations within the continental United States and works year-round with interagency partners and private sector/NGOs, including FEMA, to ensure plans, communications, and interagency relationships are always ready to deliver the right military-unique capabilities at the right time and place

Topics of conversation included historical disaster response methodology, National Security Emergency Planning, Modeling and Simulation, and upcoming exercises. The leaders identified opportunities to strengthen the national disaster response framework through upcoming training and exercises.
