Alexei Bulazel has returned to the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Cyber, a move that marks his second tenure at the NSC. His appointment places him at the forefront of U.S. cyber policy and national security strategy, where he will be responsible for shaping federal cybersecurity initiatives, critical infrastructure protections, and cyber threat mitigation efforts.
Bulazel, a cybersecurity policy and technology expert, previously served as Director for Cyber Policy at the NSC from 2020 to 2021, where he worked on military and intelligence operations, government regulation, and critical infrastructure security.
Most recently, he was a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Foundation for American Innovation, where he focused on national security, technology policy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. During this time, he provided thought leadership on cyber policy matters, presenting at venues such as National Defense University, the Hudson Institute, and the Museum of the American Revolution.
Bulazel has also held roles in private-sector cybersecurity research and policy development, serving as Security Architect at Oracle from 2021 to 2025 and Senior Security Researcher at Apple from 2019 to 2020. His background includes extensive research into software vulnerabilities, reverse engineering, and digital forensics, with presentations at industry-leading security conferences such as Black Hat, DEFCON, and REcon. He has also contributed to academic cybersecurity research, publishing peer-reviewed papers at the USENIX Workshop on Offensive Technology (WOOT) and the Reversing and Offensive-Oriented Trends Symposium (ROOTS).
Bulazel holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and is an alumnus of the RPISEC computer security team.
