James Burdock was named Deputy Director of FBI’s National Vetting Center this past week. The National Vetting Center provides that the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of National Intelligence, and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency shall, on a continuing basis, work together to ensure, consistent with the authorities and available resources of each official’s respective agency, that the daily operations and functions of the National Vetting Center (NVC) are supported, including through the assignment of personnel. NSPM-9 specifies the Secretary of State and Attorney General shall each assign senior officials to serve as Deputy Directors of the NVC. The selectee will be detailed to DHS to serve as the Deputy Director. Mr. Burdock serves as the Deputy Director and is the senior representative of the FBI and the Department of Justice.
Mr. Burdock is a Chief at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he exercises senior leadership and decision-making authority for multiple divisions, including security and logistics operations. He has over 35 years of domestic and international expertise in leading comprehensive strategies to mitigate risks and protect assets on a global scale.
He has a proven track record of implementing robust security frameworks, fostering compliance, and driving organizational resilience, while building and leading high-performance teams. His notable accomplishments include co-authoring the National OPSEC Policy, revamping strategies for international relationships, enhancing officer safety, and executing effective executive communication strategies. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a certified pilot with active TC/SCI and full-scope polygraph clearance. He is passionate about advancing security practices and solutions to address unprecedented security challenges.
