Michael Buck was sworn in as the 22nd chief of the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division during an Assumption of Command ceremony Oct. 20.
Buck previously served as the assistant chief of the Uniformed Division from February 2022 to February 2023. He began his law enforcement career with the Secret Service in 1997, when he was sworn in as a Uniformed Division officer. Buck subsequently climbed the division’s ranks, with promotions to sergeant in 2002, lieutenant in 2006, and captain in 2010. As a captain, Buck served as the White House Zone coordinator for the 2012 Presidential Inauguration and Uniformed Division coordinator for the 2014 UN General Assembly.
In November 2014, he was promoted to inspector, serving in that capacity at the James J. Rowley Training Center and the White House Branch. In August 2018, Buck was promoted to deputy chief over Management and Organization at the training center, where he led efforts to expand the Secret Service Leadership curriculum, which has been essential to developing the skills and capabilities of the agency’s workforce.
He next transitioned to become the deputy chief of the Foreign Missions Branch, where he sustained and promoted excellent working relationships with the State Department, Metropolitan Police Department, and other local law enforcement and first responder partners.

In existence for more than 100 years, the Secret Service Uniformed Division is responsible for physical security of the White House complex and vice president’s residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington D.C.
