CBP to Change Hours of Operation at Tecate Port of Entry

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced today that they are amending the hours of operation at the Tecate Port of Entry, beginning Sunday, March 28, 2021.

CBP is working on implementing the change on the current hours of operations to mitigate wait times during peak hours and better serve the communities surrounding the port of entry.

Beginning March 28, the hours of operation at the Tecate passenger port of entry will be as follows:

  • 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

The hours of operation at the cargo facility will remain the same, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“With these changes, we may be able to open an additional vehicle lane in the mornings from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and increase our throughput by approximately 30 percent,” said Officer in Charge, Jose Haro.  “We will continue to effectively manage wait times to enhance the border crossing experience for travelers that enter through the Tecate border crossing. The Saturday and Sunday hours of operation will allow for expanded hours more aligned with weekend cross border travel, shopping and family visitation.”

Travelers may also consult the CBP website to monitor border wait times at www.bwt.cbp.gov.

Information is updated hourly and is useful in planning trips and identifying periods of light usage and shorter waits.

For additional information on what to expect at the port of entry, document requirements, and prohibited or restricted items, travelers can visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website at www.cbp.gov

The Office of Field Operations is responsible for securing our borders at the ports of entry.  U.S. Customs and Border Protections Officers’ primary mission is anti-terrorism; they screen all people, vehicles, and goods entering the United States, while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel into and out of the United States.
