On July 30, 2026, the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) project published a new report about threats by Iran-backed Iraqi militias to assassinate President Trump in recent months.
Since the outbreak of the ongoing U.S.-Iran war on February 28, 2026, Iran-backed Iraqi Shi’ite militias have repeatedly threatened the U.S., including President Donald Trump, American military bases and personnel in the region, and other U.S. targets.
The following compilation, based on materials collected by the MEMRI JTTM team, focuses on threats issued by the Iraqi militias since the July 8 resumption of hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. A few noteworthy threats issued earlier, since the April 8 ceasefire, are also included.
Iran-backed Iraqi militias began attacking U.S. forces in the Middle East about two decades ago and claimed hundreds of attacks between the outbreak of the current U.S.-Iran war on February 28 and the initial ceasefire on April 8.[1] An obscure faction linked to Iraq’s Iran-backed Hizbullah Brigades, “Harakat Ashab Al-Yamin Al-Islamiyah” [Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right], which was active from mid-March 2026 until the arrest of its mastermind in late April, claimed several sabotage attacks on U.S. interests in Europe and planned a terrorist attack in New York, according to the U.S. Justice Department.
Threats To Assassinate President Trump
On July 16, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iran-backed militias, announced that it was offering a $10 million reward to anyone who kills “the criminal Trump.”
Unofficial media outlets supporting the Iran-backed Iraqi militias subsequently amplified the message with posters and videos highlighting the bounty placed on Trump, threatening the president, and envisioning his assassination.
A poster by the Tuthiyat Al-Shi’a Telegram channel depicted Trump looking at massive billboards in New York City’s Times Square displaying his picture with the text “Wanted: $10,000,000.” The Khatam Al-Anbiya’ Center for Resistance Media’s poster showed Trump in the crosshairs of a rifle, and its text referenced the reward offered by “Iraqi factions.” A poster by the Katibat Al-Ghayb Telegram channel featured an image of Trump raising his fist after narrowly surviving a July 2024 assassination attempt, with a target superimposed on his face. Its English-language caption read: “Soon … Your end will be at the hands of the sons of the Iraqi resistance!” The Fajr Media channel released a poster depicting a gunman opening fire on Trump while he was seated in a presidential limousine.
In a separate threat, the Sabereen News media outlet released an AI-generated, anime-style video titled “Hunting Trump” on July 23, which depicted Iran and other Axis of Resistance forces assassinating Trump, War Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Threats To Target U.S. Bases And Interests
On July 13, Al-Fatih 110, an unofficial Telegram channel supporting the Iraqi militias, released an AI-generated poster depicting an operations room in which Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Lebanese Hizbullah Secretary-General Na’im Qassem, Ansar Allah (Houthi) leader ‘Abdul-Malik Badreddin Al-Houthi and military spokesman Yahya Sare’e, and Iraqi Hizbullah Brigades and Al-Nujaba Movement secretary-generals Abu Hussein Al-Hamidawi and Akram Al-Kaabi were shown studying a map of the region, while a large screen displays the U.S. and Israeli flags engulfed in flames. The channel threatened that Iran would “wage a Karbala-like battle” with the support of the “Shi’ite axis” in Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Iraq’s Al-Nujaba Movement released a video clip on July 14 threatening to attack U.S. bases using first-person view (FPV) drones.
The official Islamic Resistance in Iraq issued a July 20 statement in which it stressed its commitment to “engage directly in the conflict with the American enemy” by targeting “all American interests and bases in the country and the region,” if the U.S. continued to “escalate its hostility” toward Iran.
Earlier Threats To Trump And His Family Members
Over the previous two months, the Iran-backed Iraqi militias issued similar threats. Threats against Trump’s life were issued in late April, particularly following an April 25 shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which the president attended. Other threats issued between the April 8 ceasefire and the July 8 resumption of fighting included threats to kidnap Americans and launch cyberattacks against Silicon Valley.
On April 20, the Iran-backed “Harakat Ashab Al-Yamin Al-Islamiyah” issued a statement threatening Trump and his family members, particularly his daughter Ivanka, and urging Americans to assassinate the president.
An AI-generated video clip released that same day by the Shahed News Telegram channel depicted Imam ‘Ali brandishing his sword, Dhu Al-Fiqar, in front of the White House, as Trump looks on in terror.
Following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, the Iraqi Military Capabilities Telegram channel shared videos of the incident’s opening moments, mocking Trump for his reaction and threatening: “You do not have security anywhere, you fool.”
The Archive of the Resistance in Iraq channel highlighted a call by Hizbullah Brigades leader Abu Hussein Al-Hamidawi to “lone lions scattered across the far corners of the earth” to “wage a comprehensive war against the combined forces of arrogance and hegemony” in support of Iran. The channel shared an AI-generated image depicting a miniature Trump trapped inside a glass bottle as Al-Hamidawi sets a fire inside the bottle with a lighter, igniting Trump’s boot and a MAGA hat. In another post, it shared images of a sniper rifle, a reenactment of the John F. Kennedy assassination, and a video of the previous day’s shooting, commenting: “Perhaps the scene will repeat itself.”
Threat Of Cyberattacks On Silicon Valley
On April 16, Iraq’s Iran-backed “313 Team” hacker group shared posters threatening cyberattacks on Silicon Valley. The posters’ text declared that “Silicon Valley is no longer an invulnerable fortress,” and that “giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon” are vulnerable to actors who seek their “total digital collapse.”
Threats To Kidnap Americans
After the U.S. Justice Department announced on May 15 that it had arrested and extradited Mohammad Baqer Al-Saadi, a Hizbullah Brigades commander wanted on terrorism charges in Europe and North America, Telegram channels supporting Iran-backed Iraqi militias threatened to avenge his “abduction” and ensure his release.
The Almihwar News channel threatened: “Kidnapping for kidnapping, imprisonment for imprisonment – and whoever started is to blame, until the release of Mohammad Baqer Al-Saadi.”
