Data Center Emergency Preparedness Bill Passes House Committee

A House committee passed a bill this week legislators say would require data centers to work with first responders for emergency preparedness.

House Bill 2535 would require data center developers and operators to provide floor plans and infrastructure inventories to fire companies annually as a condition of occupancy.

“Without this vital information, our responders would not know what they were walking into, and every minute counts, not only for them, but for the entire surrounding community,” said Rep. Christina Sappey (D-Chester), the bill’s sponsor. “This gives responders critical safety information before and during a crisis, and it helps them prepare for potential hazards like battery storage, cooling agents and fuel storage locations.”
