Governor Jim Pillen and Nebraska Emergency Management Agency directors provided an update to Nebraska’s emergency response to severe weather operations on Saturday. The event took place at the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency Headquarters at the National Guard Base.
Due to the weather, Gov. Pillen has declared a State of Emergency. Declaring a state of emergency allows officials to request resources from other states and opens the governor’s emergency funds, which can be refunded. No federal government assistance has been requested, as of now.
A common message at the event was for Nebraskans to stay home. City officials said blowing snow and temperatures have created dangerous driving conditions, with around 15% of local roads forced to close. About 150 plows throughout the eastern part of Nebraska are working on the roads.
