The threat of incel-driven targeted violence is a complex public safety challenge driven by online radicalization and severe personal grievances. Driven by entitlement, misogyny, and perceived romantic rejection, attackers typically target women or perceived societal “successes.” This is an emergent form of ideological violent extremism with the subculture built on a narrative of victimhood, where members blame women and societal norms for their sexless lives and perceived social isolation. Online spaces often lead to radicalization and act as echo chambers, deepening resentment and creating environments that glorify or justify gender-based violence.
