Trump: Nielsen Needs to Get Tougher on Border

President Trump said on Fox News Sunday that he respects Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, but wants her to get tougher on the border. As speculation has circulated the past few weeks that Nielsen is on her way out, the president said without specifics that he was looking at replacing up to five members of his cabinet.

That’s what happens with government. You leave, you make a name, you go,” Trump told Chris Wallace. “The people that have left have done very well from my White House. I like her very much, I respect her very much. I’d like her to be much tougher on the border, much tougher period.”

Nielsen was in attendance at the White House when Trump signed into law the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Act of 2018 on Friday. The legislation reorganizes DHS’ National Protection and Programs Directorate into a new agency with the mission of protecting the security of the country’s cyber and physical infrastructure.

“I have three, or four or five positions that I’m thinking about. Of that, maybe it’s going to end up being two,” Trump said.
